When far-infrared light penetrates dark-toned glass-ceramics, bathing the skin evenly, the sauna experience becomes more than just sweating. Recently, Dongguan Hontech Glass Products Co., Ltd. delivered a new batch of far-infrared transmitting glass-ceramics to over ten sauna brands worldwide, marking the official large-scale entry of this new material into health therapy spaces.
Unlike traditional window glass, glass-ceramics are filled with nano-scale crystals that efficiently transmit far-infrared light in the 5–15 micrometer (µm) wavelength band – known within the industry as “vital rays.” This light resonates with human cells, helping to relax muscles and promote circulation. Hontech’s formula eliminates heavy metals, using lead-free and cadmium-free raw materials. After high-temperature integral crystallization, the panels can withstand thermal shocks up to 800°C (1472°F), resisting breakage even when doused with cold water, adding crucial safety in the high-heat and humidity of steam environments.
Eco-friendliness is now a key selling point for saunas, aligning with the low-carbon trend in interior design. Simultaneously, the deep brown tint perfectly conceals heating elements, creating a sleek cabin appearance highly favored by Nordic and Japanese clients.
Currently, Hontech offers over a dozen custom specifications of glass-ceramics, with thicknesses ranging from 4–8 mm. These cater to diverse applications: from compact home infrared cabins and hotel mini-sauna pods to high-end gym’s far-infrared steam walls. The material supports custom shaping, angled cuts, and CNC machining for holes, accommodating curved surfaces, corners, and complex designs.
As far-infrared light transmits through Hontech’s glass-ceramics, delivering gentle warmth without scorching, relaxation and wellness are simultaneously enhanced. Moving forward, this Dongguan-based company will continue partnering with sauna manufacturers to bring these “vital rays” into more homes and wellness spaces, ensuring every sweat session is safer, more eco-friendly, and more effective.
